so here is the deal

i work with arms & armor. everything from early Roman to the 1800s. most of what I work with is from 16th century.

right now Im working on an exhibit of mail.

(no, not chain mail. chain mail is when you get a letter telling you that if you dont send out 20 copies in the next 10 seconds your cat will drink all your coffee. mail is a type of early armor constructed of interlocking rings. but i digress)

this got me thinking about renaissance fairs. people dressing up in what they think is period dress and taking part in ye olde medieval sports. some people who go to these things are there to have a good time and dont try to pretend that they are keepers of history. but the rest of them

put it in perspective.

imagine 300 years from now a 20th century revival festival where half of the people are dressed in combat fatigues from WWI, WWII, and Desert Storm at the same time, and the other half of the people are dressed in tuxes and prom dresses, all eating faux McDonalds food, TV dinners and watching recreation WWF wrestling matches.

this is what renaissance festivals look like to me.
