friday & i need a break.
this has been a week of up & downs, just like most of the weeks before it & i wonder how long i can stay on this ride. sometimes i think that things are looking up & then i realize that the lows are just getting deeper climbing 10,000 feet up out of the canyon is not the same as climbing 10,000 feet to the top of the mountain.

Monet, at two points in his life, took all of his paintings into the yard & set them on fire.

what if he burned the good stuff?

perhaps all we know of his work is the second rate paintings that he felt comfortable selling. the contract work & popular safe pieces that never pushed the edge too far. what if he burned the truly challenging works the pieces that made his heart soar & his soul overflow with joy.

what if he burned his joy?

would that make those fires his greatest work of art or his greatest folly? would it make him insane or a genius? would this become a story of tragedy or of triumph? would it even change a damn thing?

the only true art is what is created inside yourself. everything else is just a pale comparison to what the minds eye sees when the lights go out.
