lets start with the fact that i love the way a room looks when it has just been painted. i love the process of patching & sanding getting the walls ready for the first coat of paint. i love how quickly a room can be transformed when it is painted a mess of patch marks & different colors become a nice smooth new coat of paint. there is something wonderful & deeply satisfying about it.

except when i am at work & i am under a deadline. then it just sucks.

spent the whole day priming the gallery so i can start painting the show colors on wednesday. i hate priming. spend the whole day painting just so you can cover it over with a different color the next day. i know it needs to be done, but that does not negate the fact that it is the painting equivalent of flossing your teeth you know you should do it, but it is a pain in the ass. harrumph.

my boss is also tweaking about the hurricane that is coming. this is new to her. she is from middle america & has never dealt with a hurricane before. those of us who have been here are thinking, hurricane?!? who is having the hurricane party? well, that is not completely true. half of us are thinking that, the other half are stocking up on plywood & water & shotgun shells because, its a hurricane & were all GONNA DIE!! these are the same people who stock up on three weeks worth of food when they see the first snowflake. (to be honest, ive been that person at points in my life.)

so anyway, she is tweaked while trying not to be tweaked & both my building manager & i are doing our best not to giggle while she is running off a checklist of what we need to do before the storm hits. (note: the hurricane is not even predicted to hit here directly) i spent most of the afternoon swapping worst case scenarios with the building manager

now, if the rain is from the northeast & we get more than a foot of rain in less than two hours & the winds are more than 70 miles per hour, do you thing that would be enough to wash out the corner supports & cause the building to collapse? how much plastic sheeting would we need for something like that?

ok, so i can be a prick sometimes. i tried to explain to her that the hurricane, even if it changed direction & headed right for us, was not going to surprise us. today is monday; we are talking about a storm that will hit on friday. i think we have some time to get ready. lets skip the fact that the building i work in is all glass & steel & there is not enough plywood in worcester county to cover it all over. if Mother Nature wants to kick your ass, then your ass is going to get kicked & there is not a damn thing you can do about it.

ah, what a way to start the week.
